Holiday Guide

Inny bay enjoys a unique location on the shores of Lough Ree in the centre of Ireland. 
It is within easy reach of Galway (1hr), Dublin (1.5hr) and Shannon (2hr).

We recommend that you choose Inny bay as you base for a couple of days exploring the Midlands of Ireland. 
Full directions will be supplied by Paul and Deirdre

You can choose from the following suggestions or create some of your own:

Day 1 - Arrival

Arrive, unpack, unwind and relax.
Walk along the shores of Lough Ree and the banks of the Inny River.
Enjoy watching the swans and the sunset. 
We can recommend a restuarant in Glasson for you evening meal and return to the turf fire in our guestroom.
Day 2 - Kilbeggan and Clonmacnoise

Travel to Kilbeggan ( 35 mins) to visit Locke's Distillary Museum and enjoy a complimentary Whiskey.
Next stop Clonmacnoise, a monastic sight overlooking the river Shannon in Co. Offaly.
The extensive ruins include a cathedral, castle, round tower, churches and High Crosses.
Finish your day with a meal in Shannonbridge before returning to Inny bay.

Day 3 - Galway

A Galway day has never been easier with motorway from Athlone to Galway.
Travel will take one hour and offers excellent shopping, sea walks and tourist attractions.
Plan your day after a visit to galwaytourism.ie 
Galway has several excellent restaurants to choose from, before a trip back to Inny bay.
Day 4 - Strokestown House and Corlea trackway

Travel to Strokestown (50 mins). The Strokestown Park House, Famine Museum and Walled Garden are well worth a visit.
Then on the Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre, which houses an ancient trackway preserved within a small museum. Excellent guided tours available.
Return to Ballymahon for a good meal.

Day 5 - Newgrange

Travel to Newgrange Tomb (1hr 50mins) in the Boyne Valley, a 5000 year old Passage Tomb famous for the Winter Solstice illumination. 
Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. For more info see newgrange.com
Return to Mullingar for an evening meal.
Day 6 - Outdoor Discovery

A range of adventures for the young, and young at heart. Talk to Alex who will tailor an adventure package suited to you.
Activities include: Kayaking, Canoeing, Archery, Zorbing and Rafting etc..

Enjoy an evening meal in Athlone
Day 7 - Golf or Flying lesson

A short trip to Glasson ( 10 mins) and you can tee off for a round of golf on a Championship course. Followed by a meal in the golf club.

Alternatively take a flying lesson at Abbeyshrule airport. For another view of our world the instructor can bring you down along the Inny river to Athlone and follow the road back. An unforgettable experience. Relive the experience over a meal at the Rustic Inn.
Everyday - Relaxation

Enjoy the resident swans who live beside us, blissfully unaware how closely they are being watched and how often they lift our spirits. These magnificent birds are one of Inny Bay's treasures. Herons, Kingfishers and Moorhens complete the picture.
The sunsets over the bay are a joy to behold. Weather permitting you can sit on the garden furniture in wonder as the day descends.
